What Comes Next?

Coming into the Flames’ system as a first rounder brings a lot of expectations. Fortunately for him, Potter was the 2nd player drafted by the Flames, who picked up Cole Reschny from the Victoria Royals earlier in the round.

Based on my own estimation, I would put Potter at #5 in the Flames system in terms of player pedigree. First in that room is 9th Overall Pick from last year Zayne Parekh, one of the best defense prospects in the league. Secondly would be Sam Honzek, picked 16th Overall in 2023. 3rd would be Cole Reschny, who was picked earlier in this year’s draft, and 4th I would put Matvei Gridin, the 28th Overall pick of 2024.

I would say Potter should play at minimum 2 more years at ASU before attempting to go pro, and if all goes according to plan, Potter should make his NHL debut by 2028 or 2029.
